Sen. Rick Scott: Washington Running Up the Taxpayers’ Tab While Inflation Hits Record High

March 15, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Senator Rick Scott released the below statement following last week’s passage of the reckless $1.5 trillion Omnibus spending bill riddled with hundreds of millions of dollars in earmarks although America is over $30 trillion in debt and experiencing levels of inflation not seen in over 40 years.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Our nation is experiencing the highest inflation we have seen in 40 years fueled by reckless government spending. America is more than $30 TRILLION in debt, but that didn’t stop career politicians from going on another spending spree; stuffing thousands of wasteful pet-projects known as ‘earmarks’ costing more than $8 BILLION in the $1.5 TRILLION budget. That’s right, as hardworking Americans, and poor families like mine growing up, are struggling to get by, Congress brought back earmarks for the first time in over a decade to spend even more. Senator Chuck Schumer has 154 earmarks himself and has put Florida taxpayers on the hook for things like a $600,000 NYC greenhouse and $3 million Brooklyn gallery. It’s shameless and irresponsible.

“Let’s be clear – this isn’t a budget. A budget is balanced and responsible. It’s time to stop the reckless spending and corrupt political dealing. We need to start paying down our debt, and get this country back on track. Americans cannot afford this and they deserve better.”
