Sen. Rick Scott: Florida Colleges & Universities Must Reject Raising Costs for Florida Students, Hold the Line on Tuition

February 8, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Senator Rick Scott released the below statement following reports that universities in Florida are considering raising student tuition costs for the first time in nearly a decade, due in part to rising expenses caused by President Joe Biden’s raging inflation crisis.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Reports that universities in Florida and across America are considering tuition increases are shocking and infuriating. Thanks to the failed policies and reckless federal spending pushed by Joe Biden and Democrats in Washington, prices on nearly everything are way up. Increasing tuition in the middle of this raging inflation crisis would be kicking families while they’re down. For nearly a decade, I have worked to make sure Florida’s public higher education institutions, which are ranked #1 in the nation, hold the line on tuition and make higher education more affordable for more Floridians. I now challenge every college and university in Florida to publicly pledge to not raise tuition and fees. Straying from this path now is completely unacceptable and would have horrific consequences on the ability for countless students to pursue their dreams.”
