Statement from Sen. Rick Scott on Speaker Pelosi’s Bizarre TPS Comments

October 4, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Senator Rick Scott released the below statement following Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s bizarre comments yesterday about Temporary Protected Status (TPS), in which she claimed the T in “temporary” means “temporary related to the condition in the country. Not temporary...for here.”

Senator Rick Scott said, “Does Speaker Pelosi not understand what TPS is? Or does she just think the people of Florida are stupid?

“Last week, Senate Democrats blocked my amendment that would grant TPS to Venezuelans immediately and make much-needed reforms to the program. Now it’s clear why. The Democrats have no interest in helping the Venezuelan people fleeing Maduro’s oppression. They’re more interested in using the Venezuelan community as a political pawn to attack Republicans. That’s shameful. My amendment can pass the Senate and I believe the President will sign it. I hope the Democrats join me in fighting for a solution.”
