Sen. Rick Scott: Army Corps Decision Hinders Everglades Restoration Efforts

May 15, 2020

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Senator Rick Scott released the below statement following a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers decision that would delay completion of the Everglades Agricultural Area (EAA) Storage Reservoir, a project that is critical to Everglades restoration.

Senator Rick Scott said, “I am disappointed to learn that the Army Corps of Engineers is ignoring Congressional intent regarding the EAA reservoir, which will ultimately delay construction. In 2017, as Governor of Florida, I signed the EAA reservoir into law as a part of our ongoing effort to restore the Florida Everglades. Congress and President Trump were clear when they passed and signed the 2018 Water Resources Development Act into law that the EAA reservoir was a part of the Central Everglades Planning Project. The Army Corps of Engineers reversing course will slow the great progress we have made, and I will be working with the Florida Congressional delegation to ensure this is addressed.”
