PHOTO RELEASE Sen. Rick Scott: Florida Families Must Get Prepared for 2021 Hurricane Season

June 1, 2021

MIAMI, Fla. – Today, on the first day of the 2021 hurricane season, Senator Rick Scott toured the National Hurricane Center in Miami and received a briefing from Director Ken Graham. Senator Scott is encouraging every Florida family and business to take the opportunity to make a plan and get prepared now. Senator Scott and his colleagues in the U.S. Senate recently sent a letter to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to ensure the agency is prepared for a potential workforce shortage ahead of the 2021 hurricane season. FEMA, which is currently deployed to assist with the COVID-19 pandemic, is also tasked with the crisis created by President Joe Biden on the southern border.

Senator Rick Scott said, “In Florida, we know just how suddenly severe weather can develop and threaten our communities. It can happen at any moment. Throughout my eight years as Governor, I saw firsthand the destruction left behind by multiple devastating hurricanes, and if there is one thing I learned, it’s that preparedness saves lives. Today, I’m asking every Florida family and business to get a plan and make sure their disaster preparedness kit is ready. As your Senator, I’ll continue to do everything I can to support disaster preparedness and keep Florida families safe.”
